Small Wooden Pipe Navajo - Native American Art
The pipe or peace pipe has been created and smoked on important occasions. It was an integral part of Indian political life, inter-tribal conferences and treaty negotiations. The peace pipe was also central to the life of their religions. The medicine man used it in ceremonies to cure disease and to keep danger and trouble at bay. Pipe styles also varied from tribe to tribe. The Indians made them from bone, wood, clay and various stone materials. But in some ways they were all the same; they were all sacramental and were considered to be divinely inspired.
